Molly Hatchet: Double Trouble live 2lp

Molly Hatchet – Double Trouble Live (2LP)

Originally released in 1985, Double Trouble Live captures Molly Hatchet taking their Southern rock out onto the stage: gritty vocals, hard-driving rhythms and guitars that stretch from bluesy leads to full-throttle boogie. Recorded in Jacksonville, Florida and Dallas, Texas, this double live album gives the songs room to breathe without losing their hard rock punch.

Whiskey Man, Bounty Hunter and Flirtin’ with Disaster bring the familiar hooks, while Gator Country and Boogie No More showcase the band’s ability to build momentum over longer performances. Their take on Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Freebird and the Allman Brothers’ Dreams I’ll Never See places the set firmly within the Southern rock tradition, alongside the dramatic sweep of Fall of the Peacemakers.

The album reached No. 130 on the US Billboard 200. Its real attraction, though, is the breadth of the live set: a substantial two-record session that moves between tough, compact rock songs and extended guitar-led workouts.

A fitting choice for listeners who like their Southern rock loud, blues-rooted and played with room for the band to cut loose.
